This weekend marked the inaugural DV100, a 100km road ride/race in Drayton Valley, Alberta. Earlier this year, they also hosted the inaugural triathlon in Drayton Valley, so with my parents living there, I’m thrilled the community will be hosting these events…they are a great excuse for a visit and the chance to raid my parents garden :).
The race was quite well organized considering it was the inaugural race (they always take a couple of years to iron out the kinks), and I was super impressed with the safety on the course. There were police at every major intersection, and tons of volunteers along the route.
The route for this course started in Drayton Valley and then headed out to Lodgepole, over to Cynthia (followed by a short out and back) and then on to Rocky Rapids before the last 10kms back to Drayton Valley. They could not have asked for better weather, and with all the leaves changing color, the views were fantastic.
Being that this was my first “road race”, I was thrilled that I ended up coming in third for the women and 1st in my age group…I just wanted to finish! Also, they give out cash prizes for the top finishers…so I was pretty happy to be heading home with a $100 cheque.
I hope that this race is held again next year, because I’ll definitely sign up…and I’m sure with the fun had by all, it will only get more popular, which likely means I likely won’t be receiving any more cheques hehe.
Enjoy these lovely fall days!
