Elk Island National Park

While the Campbell family got lots of visiting and c-c-cold skiing in over the holidays at Pembina Nordic, Dad and I opted to tack on a long ski in preparation for the Birkie in February. This was my first long ski of the season with my “prince” pack on. Boy could I feel it!

Fortunately, it was a beautiful day out at Elk Island National Park and the trails were in great condition. Note, not all of the trails are track set. We were able to find groomed trails from the Waskehegan Staging Area (Birkebeiner finish line) to about the half way point to Lake Islet. The remainder of our skiing was done on skier set trails…made for a long tough slog, but what a great day with my favorite ski partner!

I’m looking forward to some more bonding time with my pack over the next month leading up to the race :).

Happy trails!
