Dad and I convinced cousin Lesley and Dale to join us in the 2nd annual Drayton Valley Triathlon this weekend. For team Huckleberry Twin (Dad and I), I took on the swim (750 meters) and bike (20kms) while Dad brought us in with the run (5kms). Representing team Blue Goats, Dale did the swim and run while Lesley brought out her fancy new bike for the ride.
What a fantastic day and perfect conditions. The wait for the swim (similar to last year) was a long one. Being that it’s a pool swim, the slower swimmers start first, so we didn’t get in the pool until over an hour after the race start.
My swim was almost 30 seconds faster than last year (which doesn’t sound like much for non swimmers) but I was thrilled with the improvement. Finishing in just under 13 minutes, I was pumped to get on the bike. The bike ride (an out and back) went by fast and I was pleased to be 4 minutes faster than last year. Handing off to Dad, he smoked the run…finishing in under 21 minutes!
Lesley and Dale also had a fantastic race. This was just a warm up for Dale who had another triathlon the next day. Lesley had a great ride on her new bike and Dale beat Dad by 5 seconds on the run.
What a great day with family. Can’t wait until next year’s race.
